Release The Kraken: Wach The 2019 Corvette ZR1 Set The Lap Record At VIR – Ford GT Leveled

This is war. Just days after Ford released a video showing the GT setting the lap record at Virginia International Raceway, the internet is dropping headlines like 2019 Corvette ZR1 Sets Lap Record At VIR. That’s only because those are true. Yes, the $119,000 ZR1 Corvette is quicker by about 1.5 seconds around the track than a $400,000 Ford GT. We’re not saying that because we have a dog in the fight but we’re saying it because it is shockingly true. GM engineer Jim Mero drove the car to the blistering lap time and the vide of the run is below. This is a beastly car. It is light, it is ungodly powerful and clearly it can turn with the best of them.

The car’s only modification were track seats, a five point bar, and a roll cage mounted belting system. Yes a performance alignment was done but after that it was a stock motor, a stock electronic suspension, and a stock set of tires that carried the 2019 Corvette ZR1 to this big league accomplishment.

We’d have to imagine that this ain’t going over well in Dearborn. The GT is obviously not a bad or a slow car but it is seemingly a rocket ship to the Corvette’s more traditional design. Hell, if this is what the 2019 ZR1 can do, imagine what that mid-engine monster will be capable of, right? Lighter, stronger, more powerful. Should be a real killer. The ZR1 lap time was 2:37.25 for the record.

So this is a 3,500lb car with 755hp. The engine makes 715 lb-ft of torque. It is a doomsday machine. It is the yin and the yang, and it is cheaper than everything it competes with and beats. We car bitch and complain about today’s cars all we want. This thing is insane. Failing to admit that makes you either a couple honk or just not all that bright

      Except the first one already sold at auction for $925k. Let’s hope these things don’t sit in garages unused.

        Really not that impressed, Jim Mero not a very good driver, he made a lot of mistakes!! could have went faster! But still not impressed! My opinion.

  1. Big Bill

    GT = Car A
    ZR1 = Car B

    Car A advantage – 450 lbs lighter.

    Car B advantage – 108 more hp and 160 ft/lb more torque.

    Sounds less impressive when you do it this way, doesn’t it?

    Um Jim Mero is basically a professional racer, he has been racing for many years and drives the vettes at all of the timed events like this.
    probably more seat time in new vetoes than anyone else. Woodchuck, you live up to your name lol.
