This Chromalusion-Painted 1978 Ford Mustang II Is Built Perfectly! 347 Stroker, Gears And Clean!

For over twenty years, when it comes to my selection in vehicles (you know, the weird and unloved models), I get the same argument: “why would you waste the time and money putting that thing together when you could build something worth the effort?” Here’s both of my answers: One, if you’re only worried about the value you are going to get out of the car, go play with the auction crowd, because anyone who is into hot rodding can tell you that getting all of the money you sank into the machine in the first place is just about impossible. But, here’s the other side: build the baddest, cleanest example and you stand a chance of getting at least a good portion of your investment back simply because well-built examples are few and far between.

My love for Mustang IIs is well-documented. Far as I know, it’s the first car I ever stole drove on my own, back when I was in kindergarten, and every time I’m near one I want to shove a hot small-block under the hood and let the little pony go run wild. They aren’t too loved, but Iacocca wasn’t completely off the mark when he commissioned the cars. In fact, if it wasn’t for the dismal 1970s performance, the Deuces might be in better favor among enthusiasts. Maybe. Cars like this 1978 prove that a bit of an attitude adjustment do wonders…we’ll admit that the Chromalusion paint isn’t quite to our tastes, but still…this car was put together very well and we wouldn’t kick it out of the driveway!

One of the nicest Mustang IIs around.  Fully restored body, drivetrain, and interior.  Rust-free body.  Finished in Dupont Chromalusion Blue Steel chameleon-style paint that changes colors from blue to purple to burgundy to gold.  Interior is done in black leather carbon style upholstery.

Ford Racing 347 Stroker short block.  435 horsepower.  10.6 to 1 compression ratio.  Edelbrock Performer R.P.M. cylinder heads with 2.02 intake and 1.60 exhaust valves.  Comp cams 274H extreme hydraulic camshaft.  Edelbrock Performer R.P.M. intake manifold and 750 c.f.m. carb.  Custom made 7 qrt. deep sump oil pan.  All M.S.D. ignition, coil, 6AL box and Billet distributor.  Electric fuel pump with adjustable regulator.  T.C.I. Streetfighter C-4 automatic transmission with custom 3,000 stall converter.
8.8 posi rear end with 3.73 gears and chrome rear end cover.  Has subframe connectors and slapper-style traction bars.
Aluminum radiator and pulleys with chrome alternator.
Alumicoated Blackjack headers and custom 2 1/2 inch dual exhaust system with Flowmaster muffler.
Chrome 15″ American Racing Torque Thrust II wheels and B.F. Goodrich T/A radial tires.
Fun to drive!  Handles easily with power steering and brakes.  Very fast, and can be driven anywhere.  Runs good on 93 octane pump gas.  Has great stereo, and everything works properly. This car is beautiful!  Runs and sounds great!

The later Mustang II’s sporty models were well known for being “sticker muscle” csrs. The Cobras had all the look of a badass car with none of the performance to back it up. But, as many as shown, that is nothing more than an engine change away to get that badass muscle car.

Many cant get over their bad rep from back then. Or, cannot understand anything that isnt numbers matching whatever. This lightweight with 425 hp will blow te doors off most of thise traditional muscle favorites.
