(Photos by the author) – We’re continuing on with 2018 PRI show photo coverage today with a collection of images that starts to give a pretty good idea of the cross-section of mechanical coolness that filled up the Indiana Convention Center. I was able to be part of a thing called the JE Pistons Masters of Motors which is a competition among the engines at the show.
Judged on several different categories like boosted, drag racing, naturally aspirated, best appearing, and on and on, myself, David Freiburger, Jeff Smith, and Mike Kojima were the panel. You’ll see loads of engines in this gallery because I shot many of the photos as we were cruising around the show at night looking at the potential winners. Ultimately it was a custom built engine by Dan Jesel, literally made from scratch that won the award and I’ll be talking more about that in the coming days.
PRI has its own identity. It is not for being unnecessarily over the top. Manufacturers are competing for business and attention but not in the ways they are during the SEMA show. It is engineering and creativity that makes the largest waves at PRI, not necessarily the booth vehicles or marketing campaigns before the event.
From drift cars to dirt cars, you’ll see them here. From drag week to top fuel dragsters as well. Enjoy.
