So…how are you enjoying the absolutely frigid weather? Do you like temperatures so cold that the water in the toilet tank freezes into one gigantic ice cube? Do you walk out of your front door and realize that Mother Nature is perfectly capable of slapping you right in the face? Yeah…we aren’t loving life either. The weather has been crappy, the roads have been slick, and we’ve seen accident photos that make us cringe a bit. We hope that you are being careful out there, readers. If you must travel, be careful and cautious. But know that if you send your car to a watery grave, that there might just be a little bit of a hope that the engine might survive.
The red thing being craned out of the water is better known to the Western world as a Lada Samara, but that isn’t quite right. It’s a VAZ-21099, or a Lada Sagona. Whatever the case, it’s a small front-drive four-cylinder car that found itself intentionally dunked into a reclamation pond for six months during the winter by the host, Vlad. The transmission was dead, the car was unregisterable, and the car had fines against it that were much more than what the car would be worth…kind of like back DMV fees in California. The fluids were drained out and the car was lowered into the pond…which froze over. Six months of underwater living and ice took their toll on the Lada’s body, but what about the four-banger under the hood? Six months underwater should have rendered the engine absolutely dead and done, right?
Whip up some hot chocolate, sit in the cozy chair in your warmest clothes, and enjoy the show!
