Trick Horse: Keeping A Ford Pinto As A Daily Driver With The Power Of Holley Sniper EFI!

Trick Horse: Keeping A Ford Pinto As A Daily Driver With The Power Of Holley Sniper EFI!

I conjured up the idea of “Pro Commuter” a couple of years ago and far as I can tell, I’m the only one who cares anything about the concept. But the idea itself seems to have some attraction. You see people who have the badass ride in the garage that comes out on good days or for certain events, yet every other day of the year you’ll see them in someting as joyful as a 2006 Toyota Corolla. Blech. There has to be a better way, and that’s where the Pro Commuter build comes in. It doesn’t have to be brutally fast, it doesn’t have to be a track rat. But it does have to be solid enough for daily use, it needs to enhance the typical driving characteristics over the stock form somehow, and fuel mileage should probably factor in somewhere down the line, right?

In the case of this 1980 Ford Pinto, it’d been a daily driver for years. Everything from high-school hijinks to modern-day back-and-forth to work was seen, but forty years on 1980 Ford tech should probably have a bit of a look-over. In the case of Garret Seesing’s Pinto, it was time to give the 2.3L four fuel injection, and his decision to utilize Holley’s Sniper 2300 two-barrel EFI to aid in basic daily driver functionality. This isn’t so much an installation video as it is a testament to how well the conversion actually worked for him. For a car that used to be the whipping boy of the automotive world, it’s neat to see someone actually take the time to make one better to drive than just hoping it makes it to the next day. We wonder what kind of mileage the Pinto is returning on EFI, and are thinking that a T-5 swap would make this a perfect daily cruiser…once that kind of sketchy fuel line setup gets fixed, anyways!

  1. GT Performance

Unless you need to sell holley stuff , the Ford 2.3 EFI stuff has this beat. The world has plenty of junk rangers to get it from . and use a 5.0 microsquirt to power it . And yes I own 2 Pintos .

  2. Mopar or No Car

I have a factory Pro Commuter — Crossfire SRT6. Any time, any weather, any paved road and a snap to park. Some people like to build things. They’ll spend as much as I do. I’m old enough these days I like my cars done.
