When building a race car there are tons of things to do, and lots of priorities, but why is it that the driver’s compartment often seems to take a back seat? Sure the suspension geometry is important. So is stuffing everything in the engine compartment and getting the weight in the right place. But none of that is more important than keeping the driver safe and providing a place for them to adequately drive the race car.
Quite frankly, some of the guys out there driving these things can use all the help they can get. They have a hard enough time getting down the track anyway, it isn’t helping if they can’t reach stuff right. And if they crash, and aren’t in the car right then they have an even bigger chance of being hurt. Nobody wants that.
In this video from Tim McAmis he talks seats, fitment, and where to sit in the car, along with his thoughts on how drivers should fit in the car. Watch and learn. As you know, Tim never pulls any punches and tells it like it is. Pay attention and you’ll learn something.

interesting video, ,, but i can’t help but think how disappointed Tim would be in my 1971 TVR vixen
I’m not a big time racer, but if I were, this guy would build my car. Straight shooter.
Tim is very informative as always. He is a great addition to what Bangshift puts out.
