(By Tom Lohnes) – The Honda Civic is a car we’ve all ridden in. I don’t think there is a single person on this Earth that doesn’t at least know of a Honda Civic. Well the rather stunning 11th-generation model was released, and now thanks to a CARB filing, we have the engine choices.
Starting with the base LX trim, the 11th-gen Civic gets a. good old N/A 4-cylinder, this time displacing 2.0-liters, and making 158 horsepower while revving up to 7,700 RPM. Sadly the only transmission to pair to this revvy mill is a CVT, AKA the worst thing ever. Upgrade to the EX, and you’ll find a carryover 1.5-liter Turbocharged four-banger, this time making a spritely 205 horsepower, with the same tune the last-gen Civic Si had. Once again, you are stuck with a CVT.
The Si and Type R aren’t confirmed yet, but expect both to have the same 2.0-liter turbocharged mill, with the Si making around 250 horsepower, and the Type R utilizing a Hybrid powertrain to supposedly generate around 400, which will give the Subaru WRX STI a run for its money.
Not the most exciting car ever, but expect the next-gen Civic to deliver on the promise of reliable transportation just like all of its ancestors.
