If there was an indication that the sport of drag racing was set to come roaring back after a dreadful for the world 2020, it happened early in the year at the Texas Motorplex. The event was Funny Car Chaos and it drew the largest field of funny cars assembled anywhere by anyone for decades. There were alcohol cars, nitro cars, nostalgia cars, modern cars, and stuff we’d never even heard of, like twin turbo cars. The rules? Really simple. Shut up and race, and may the best team win.
Our pal Les Mayhew used this event to create the most ambition project of his filmmaking life. You are about to embark on a feature length look at the event, the racers, the competition, the heartbreak, and the thrill of victory in only the style Les can produce. It is an amazing commitment and effort to make a project half this length but to see him make a literal movie out of the event is mind blowing. Just the sheer number of hours of footage taken by all of his cameras that had to be sorted makes blood come out of our ears.
You can kick back, relax, and watch it all at once, or you can watch it at your own pace, but watch it! This is not just a labor of love, this is a labor of importance to document the history of this race which may stand for a very long time as the largest funny car meet in modern drag racing history.
Congrats to Les on another smashing piece of work here where his heart, soul, knowledge of the sport, and hard work shine line diamonds!
THANKS BRIAN!
Great to see you work Les…
