Cincinnati Cavalcade Of Customs 2017 Coverage – Classy Customs, LS Swapped Sleepers, and One Neat Buick

(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) – We’re continuing our Cincinnati Cavalcade Of Customs 2017 coverage right now. It is no secret I am not part of the ‘LS-swap the world’ movement.  It’s not that I don’t like them…but they’re ugly and 95% of the swaps don’t look right in a classic, muscle car, or rod.  This ’67 C10 step-side is one of two exceptions in this collection of photos.  Not only is the truck a looker, under the hood is super-easy on the eyes as well.  Lots of work to make this one cool.

It won’t fool the knowledgeable, but most who pass won’t have a clue.  Really can appreciate the effort that went into this.  Next is the sweet pale gray step-side that we have personally witnessed running low 12s at Edgewater.  Though I don’t like the coils on there, this is a sano swap and because it runs like a scalded dog I can overlook them.  After this we pass into a sea of early rods and spot Erik Murphy’s ’47 Ford fat-fender.  Stance and finish that speaks to the traditionalist in us.

One of the best cars (if not THE best) we saw all weekend was the ’65 Buick Riviera Gran Sport.  A one-of-one special-order, this thing shows us they just don’t make ‘em like they used to.  Wow.  Keep going through the photos and you’ll spy more bicycles, a bumper car, and ever Ben Jones’ (Cooter from Dukes of Hazard) Chevy tow truck.  Pretty neat stuff.

Enjoy these.  One more group from the main floor then we head upstairs.

While I agree the Riviera is stunning they are slightly incorrect about it having every option available. It does not have the 4 note horn, “Autronic Eye” an early automatic headlight dimmer for the high beams, and while they list the tach I’ve never seen any documentation that it was a real Buick option in ’65.
