(Photo by Joe Grippo) – Brock Yates is a guy we openly idolize here at BangShift. He’s one of the most important and influential automotive journalists ever and his list of books, articles, and appearances is beyond epic. From calling racing action with Steve Evans to inventing and executing events like the original Cannonball Run, the One Lap of America, and even his movie writing career, the dude did it all. Brock is battling the darkness that is Alzheimer’s disease currently so this tribute to his works and exploits at the Satatoga Auto Museum is especially cool. Joe Grippo was there and took a ton of great photos of the cars, memorabilia, and display items honoring Yates and his amazing career. In truth, the Ferrari he drove across country with Dan Gurney is a favorite of our, but c’amon, how can we now not love the Challenger and well, everything else!
We’re not going to waste more time babbling. Hit the link below to see the coolest museum exhibit we’ve seen in a very long time! We wish Brock and his family all the best as he fights Alzheimer’s and we’re proud to follow (however far back) in his giant footprints in this industry.

We ran the ONE LAP in ’87. 1929 Ford Sedan Delivery w/Buick GNX / Garrett Turbo.
Red… Reider Racing [final drive components]. What a great trip. We sure did not score well, but it was a real-deal “one lap”. Made cover of Street Rodder Magazine, and Brock loved it because it was unique! Don Garlits was the send-off master in Detroit. What a ride!!! What a terrific group of participants!!
