Saturday SCTA Bonneville Racing Update: Poteet Goes 382, Thompson Goes 411, Photos, More

Well the competition has officially begun at SCTA Bonneville Speed Week 2016 and it has gotten off to a fine start. Initial concerns about the salt’s quality seems to have been pushed off the table as competitors got right after it this morning. George Poteet took the Poteet and Main streamliner down the course at 382mph and qualified for a record. Danny Thompson took the Challenger 2 down the track with a speed of 411 mph (exit speed was 419) and all reports say that the car was healthy after the runs were made.

The Black Salt Racing team made an early morning attempt with their Triumph. This is the full bodied car that has run as fast as 380mph and may be able to achieve 400 when all is said and done. While their first shot was not a massive number, it appeared like a clean run. The Joint Venture big rig rumbled down with its fresh motor, flirting with 200mph on what we assume was a shakedown pass for the famous rig. Cars like the Nish streamliner, the Turbinator, Carbonite, and others have not posted results to our knowledge yet but we’ll have a full update at the close of today’s racing.

This is going to be one hell of a week!

It’s spelled Carbinite not carbonite but other than that great photos I hope the Demon or Challenger 2 are the first to 500

I tried all day to listen on Land racing.com, most of the day was faint static and background noise.

    Factual Update:

Ron Main no longer has any equity stake in Speed Demon, nor is he calling any of the shots. A number of team changes have occurred. Crew Chief/fabricator Steve Watt and engine man Ken Duttweiler confer directly with Poteet about will be done. The new car is wholly owned by George Poteet as is campaigned under “Speed Demon Racing Team” banner.
