(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) – Haulin stuff. Wagons, pickups, panels, and deliveries. Lots to talk about in this one. We like a good clean ‘60s Ford F-series and the one heading up the gallery is top-shelf stuff. So much like the rolling stock on this. Another fine example is Travis Coomer’s slightly less-detailed 60s F-series that is sporting its 4th set of wheels I’ve seen on it since I first spotted years ago. It gets driven everywhere which makes it 100% legit and cool. The blue scalloped Galaxie Wagon was super and easily missed if folks didn’t walk down every parking lot. The event is held on Contract street in Lexington, KY which is a small industrial park. Most of Shelby’s Speed & Custom’s neighbors support the event and have their parking lots empty so the hotrods have plenty of room to gather.
I’m kind of on a Ford theme in this one so I’ll run with it. The ’78-79 1-ton dually looked ready for the farm or a goose-neck. This is an awesome tow rig. The ’68-’69 Ranchero is spot-on with a solid look and just enough weathering to show it’s age. That would make a great parts gopher. Speaking of animals….I am not sure what to say about the chicken truck. It clearly states ‘Cap’n Bob’s Silver Skillet Chicken’ and looks every bit the part. I’ve seen trucks shaped to look like a pig, a cow, and even a loaf of bread, but never a chicken. I say leave it as-is or throw a blown FE in that thing and get it down the track.
Enjoy.
