(Zane McNary photos) – We’re counting down the hours before our live streaming broadcast of the 2013 California Hot Rod Reunion begins on Friday morning with the first pair of sportsman cars down the famed quarter mile strip at Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, California. We’ve been getting you amped up with the list of 80-some cacklefest cars, and other tid bits of greatness to keep you on the edge of your seats for the event. Today’s tease is a killer gallery of photos from the last running of the California Hot Rod Reunion in 2012. These are Zane McNary’s photos and they’re great, capturing a ton of wheels up action on the strip.
Everything about the California Hot Rod Reunion is bigger than the average nostalgia race and it is awesome that we bookend our nostalgia drag racing broadcast season at Famoso, which is one of the great historic crucibles of hot rodding and drag racing. There will be DOZENS of nitro burning funny cars at this event, a host of exhibition machines, hundreds of sportsman entries, stuff we have never seen before and drag racing legends that we haven’t seen in a long time. While all of the reunion events are cool, this is the big daddy that started the deal and it has been going for more than 20 years.
