You didn’t even have to be inside of Beech Bend to see show cars at the 2019 Holley Hot Rod Reunion. From the moment you turned onto Riverview Drive, the road that becomes Beech Bend Road, you saw them: spectators watching the hot rods go by; the gigantic monster truck of a square-body GMC parked, for sale; the 1969 Malibu sitting in a grass lawn. Pull through the ticket arch that you cross through to enter Beech Bend Raceway’s property, and cars lined the road from the second you drove through until you reached the cutoff point between the show car fields and the pit areas for the race cars. Along the road, in the grass, in the fields…beauties of all kinds for you to enjoy. Some, we’ve seen before, like Chris DeWeese’s “The Bus” stock car Chevelle. Other turns, we run into friends from the area, like Jensen Masters, the guy behind the Short Street Rod Shop. We’ve been meaning to get back out to his neck of the woods…he’s got some new projects going on and there’s one from the last time we were out there that has come back and is now running and driving. Which one? You’ll see soon enough.
Unlike most years, the weather really was a factor for the Reunion, and that is meant in a good way. Most years it’s blazing hot, swelteringly humid, and there is always the threat that the clouds are going to open up and rinse away everyone’s good time. This year, there was just about none of that. It kind of got hot towards the end of Saturday, but anyone who has been to more than one showing of the Reunion would happily say that it still wasn’t anywhere near as bad as it could have been. From the swap meet to the drag strip, fans were enjoying the sights of a myriad of vehicles parked out for show. Rat rods, full-tilt customs, muscle cars and more were all on display…and a couple were even for sale if you knew who to talk to!
We still have more coverage to bring to you, so stay tuned!
