We’re Drooling Over Some Cool RVs At Bonneville Speed Week 2016 And Here Are Our Favorites

We’re Drooling Over Some Cool RVs At Bonneville Speed Week 2016 And Here Are Our Favorites

It’s a given that you are going to see a ton of killer race cars when you come to Bonneville Speed Week, and of course a lot of hot rods, but what surprises some folks are the interesting tow vehicles, motorhomes, and trailers that you see here as well. As the resident RV freak here at BangShift.com, I have been looking forward to seeing some kick ass RVs at Bonneville Speed Week 2016, and thankfully it did not disappoint.

There are a few really cool vintage trailers that we were trying to shoot as well, and unfortunately missed before they left, but all of them here are something we’d gladly park in our rv spot at home.

One in particular, the patriotic Mack seen below, is providing Brian with particular pants tightening excitement. We can only imagine the sick, errrr genius, mind that thought this particular contraption up, but have to admit the execution is spectacular. After seeing this, every Top Kick, Kodiak, and International CXT owner on the planet will suddenly realize that they have lost the sexual appendage measuring contest, so hide the sharp objects, confiscate the shoe laces and belts, cause this is the anabolic steroid shooting Arnold Schwarzenneger of camper toting trucks.

In the, “all I want to do is drive cross country in a bad ass camper van” category, this Dodge does it for us with the period perfect stripes that just scream 1980s. The fact that it’s a 3/4 ton, makes it even better because we can tow home cool projects we find during our adventures.

In the, “My rv is way badder asser than yours so stop trying to convince me otherwise because I can haul cars, the house, and everything else I want to” category is this Bad Ass RV. Literally, it’s from BadAssRV.com, who custom builds 50+ foot fifth wheel trailers, tractors, etc to be your home away from home. This one has 18 feet of stacker trailer garage in the rear, double slides in the living room and kitchen, a giant bathroom, slide equipped master bedroom, HUGE upstairs loft bedroom area, and is fully functional even with all the slides in and parked at a rest stop or truck stop for the night. The entire roof is solar panels so there is virtually no need for the propane powered generator, and it’s full of really scienced out technology that keeps all the power working like a champ. As configured, this one is about $350,000 for the trailer and either $20,ooo for a used 1 million mile Volvo tractor, or $150,000 for a brand new Volvo tractor to pull it. Either way it’s cheaper, and much more capable than some of these $700,000 plus motorhomes that have trouble pulling a 30 foot trailer.

In the “Homebuilt, but kick ass” category is this 1959 or 1960 C30 based cab and chassis motorhome featuring a tag axle for heavy loads. Originally built with just one rear axle, by the current owners father in law, he needed more carrying capacity and made the custom modification. This one also turns our crank for cool factor.

In the “It makes me giggle every time I say it’s name” category, is this 32 foot Beaver.

Enough said.

There are also Airstreams, bitchin vintage pieces, and all kinds of other cool big rig based units we’d love to own, but these ones stood out as unique which is what Bonneville is all about. Check out the rest of the photos we took of other stuff below.

  1. Bud

How bout an overhead photo of the pits to give us a perspective of how big it is this year? Drone photo? Great coverage so far. Thanks! I look forward to more photos everyday.

  2. crazy

Like some of the older more normal guy set up\’s.. the older box truck, the unloved 70-80 r/v\’s
but it is clear that some racers have deep pockets.. as some of those rigs are in the multi hundreds of thousands..
sadly no photo\’s of an old pickup or what is now called an suv, and an open trailer.. you know the rig most normal people can afford..
If you can ever get a tour of a car hauler that the 2 cars go up top inside.. do it.. they are awesome, but are huge money..
Same with the motor-coaches many racers live in.. it\’s not unheard of them being 1.5 to 3 million dollar rigs..
