RacingJunk Find: This 1968 Barracuda Is Ate Up With Motor – 648ci Goodwin Hemi!

While the current popularity of 10.5-inch tire racing can be debated with regard to the rise of the radial monster, one thing cannot be denied. Legit Outlaw 10.5 cars are freaking awesome and this one that we found for sale on RacingJunk.com is totally proof of that fact. This 1968 Barracuda is ate up with motor. In the nose of this car sits a 648ci Goodwin Competition hemi engine that makes ridiculous horsepower. The engine is made even cooler by the fact that it has a set of carbs from Alan Johnson’s pro stocker on top, it is naturally aspirated and it makes enough snot to put this car in the 1.10-1.12 second 60′ time mark. It’s a go-er!

The Goodwin engine is awesome in the fact that it has a 5.0″ bore spacing and the block has a bunch of deck heights as well. In fact the engine is so tall it almost looks like you need to remove the cowl vent to get the valve covers off the thing! The car looks pretty boss with that plexiglass scoop sitting about roof height to the iconic 1968 Barracuda body.

The engine makes 1,564hp according to the Goodwin dyno and the owner says that all of that horsepower heads through a bad ass Powerglide transmission. The whole car looks really nicely finished and the asking price for the thing, turn key is $65,000. That’s a mouthful, right? Well the engine was $75,000 new. Yikes!

We love this thing because it is not another twin turbo deal or not another Mustang or not another late model Camaro. Hell, run it as a top sportsman car and use that mean ol’ monster hemi all the way through the lights with the hammer down!

Epressed as a percentage of the entire vehicle, how much of it is a Barracuda? All there is; is the shell of one for carrying the paint.

You said the carbs are from AJs pro stocker. Isn’t the whole motor? Those are certainly NOT stock factory plug locations.
