Buyer Beware: This $130,000 1970 Hemi Plymouth Superbird Is A Giant Orange Collection Of Problems

This is an interesting video. Hoovies Garage is a huge YouTube Channel and it’s a good channel as well. My sons like watching it and the dude who founded it and runs it seems to be a salt of the Earth guy who just so happens to make a boatload of money and love cars. As such the dude always has awesome stuff in his garage and his collection is pretty radical. Recently he threw down $130,000 for a real 1970 hemi Plymouth Superbird and while it sure looked awesome on Bring A Trailer, once he got it the thing turned out to be kind of a mess. The seller failed to disclose any and all issues the car has and once it was received they were obvious.

Now, this guy is not whining and complaining about it. In fact, he still loves the car but needs to get the stuff sorted. One of the admirable things about the dude is he doesn’t play the victim and often scoops up “cheap” versions of expensive cars to solve their issues and bring them back to their former glory.

This thing is a good example of the fact that in the automotive world, all that glitters is not gold. It will be at some point but that’s going to take some time, some more money, and some good old fashioned mechanic’n.

That is not a real hemi superbird. The fender tag is super fake and suspect. The vin sequence doesn’t even come close to the 3 batches of birds built. The tag even lists N96 for air grabber hood when you couldn’t even get that option with a bird.

thats what makes these jack-offs keep going—scamming good decent joes and whats worse is the manure man-seller- is still doing it. Expose him or tell him make good on his junk or else they will keep doing it. It is a crime to misrepresent something $$$. I no care if buyer is a Ricky RIch $$—-it is us decent guys..no money, budget busting do I eat or buy car or parts kind of guys who get kicked in the rear from these JERK OFFS. I know if it wasn,t for a friend I would stepped into the cesspool and drowned in #2

Hemi B body Plymouth car’s automatically got the N96 code because it was standard/mandatory option then deleted on the Super Bird I believe.

Why people still buy stuff from bring a trailer is beyond my comprehension. What kind of fool spends 130g without looking at the car?

So the guy bought a car sight unseen and it wasn’t perfect? Unbelievable! Never heard of such a tragedy! Didn’t sound to me like the buyer knows his ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to cars. Typical rich guy without a clue. I certainly won’t waste my time watching anymore of that idiots videos.

I watched the video. It seems he got it mostly sorted for under $5,000. Plus Bring A Trailer refunded him their commission from the sale, $5,000. He didn’t get the memorabilia the seller promised, plus the seller ghosted him which is never good. The buyer knew the car was “partially rebodied” after being wrecked as a race car. If it was me with that kind of scratch I wouldn’t buy a car like that with so many mods, like that front suspension. And what’s with the cheesy roll bar? In the end, he claimed he bought the cheapest Hemi wing car on the internet and he seems happy with it. Bring A Trailer was investigating if they will kick this seller off their forum. And keep in mind, much like Craigslist or eBay, BaT is just the forum. Kudos to them for doing what they did, eBay sure wouldn’t have done anything. My two cents.

If you’re stupid enough to pay A HUNDRED THIRTY THOUSAND dollars for such an obvious fake because it’s shiny I don’t feel bad for you at all. You obviously just don’t care about money at all. Like any major purchase you should do your homework before laying out your cash. And I can’t imagine buying any rare item without having inspectedbuy a trusted expert first.

I hope he feels bad everytime he looks at it. But he won’t because he’s not smart enough to care. He fixed some issues and will pretend is good.
