(Photos by Joe Grippo) – Each July, one of the great weekends of drag racing historical celebration takes place in Pennsylvania with the York US30 Drag Strip Reunion and Muscle Car Madness show. The show is incredible and it brings historic drag cars from all corners of the country to be put on display in front of an audience that truly appreciates what they are seeing. Joe Grippo was there in July and he sent us a bunch of spectacular photos documenting the event. At the time we were so run over with other stuff to show you that these photos got buried under an avalanche of others. Now that we are digging out we thought you’d appreciate a look at all of the spectacular stuff that populated the show portion of the event. This is the first of several collections of images from Joe we are going to run. The best thing we can tell you is that there is greatness lurking around every turn at this show. From recreated cars that dutifully remember the names of the past to pieces that sit in as raced condition to how they competed decades ago, to muscle cars that are just so perfect it will bring tears to your eyes, this is some of the most BangShift approved stuff that we have seen all year.

The reason that that US30 Dragway is remembered so fondly is because it was one of the tracks that held several of the pinnacle races of the 1960s. In York’s case it was the Super Stock Nationals, an event that was a four wheeled Woodstock and a place that launched the careers of some of the most notable drivers of the decade. The teams that won there include the Tasca family among a host of others. This show remembers the track and those great days when it was the center of the door slammer racing world.
