2017 Gasser Reunion Coverage! History and More On Display At Thompson Dragway

2017 Gasser Reunion Coverage! History and More On Display At Thompson Dragway

(Photos by Mike Brooks) – I’ll always have a special place in my heart for the Gasser Reunion at Thompson Dragway in Ohio. Why? My wife and I blasted off fro college just after graduation to attend the first one about 15 years ago. On the way out there my window switch failed and the AC broke. We were roasting the whole time! The payoff was getting to the fantastic little track and enjoying all the cars and the people. The 2017 Gasser Reunion was awesome and it seems like an event that the track wants to keep it forever.

The people have changed but the feel and ethos of the event is still very much the same. This is a celebration of awesome drag racing history and a way to get some of the coolest race cars in the country out and together at the same place. From the Flintstone Flyer right on down, you cannot help but to love these race cars.

Big thanks to Mike Brooks for shooting these photos and we’re going to be back with another load of them tomorrow. Gassers forever!

Is that a Packard Gasser in the header photo?

I’d like to see a full feature on that car!

That Packard is the car of Dave Koffell. I’m not sure if this is the one he raced many years ago as a E/G car or it’s repop. Scariest car I was every around. He had a 50# flywheel to keep the revs up when he dumped the clutch to get the 4400# of Packard moving and it sounded like it should have 2 scattershields.

Hot Rod did a feature on Dave Koeffel’s cars which were the Packard, Studebaker Lark, and ’68 Cuda funny car.
