2018 NHRA Auto Club World Finals: Pit Photos That Show The Prep, The Thrash, and The Parts

(Photos by Wes Allison) – We’re turning our eyes away from the track for a minute and toward the pits with these photos from last weekend’s 2018 NHRA Auto Club World Finals in Pomona. These images were mostly taken on Thursday in the pits when the sportsman are racing and the nitro teams get their stuff set up and strip their cars prior to the weekend’s activities. This is one of the most fun days to hang out in the pits because the pace is different and the work is different as well. Whether we’re talking about more in-depth repairs or perhaps some good old fashioned maintenance, Thursday lacks the frenetic thrash that the following three days have.

Thursdays are like any other thing was can point to in drag racing regarding being prepared and on your game. The work that goes into these cars on a Thursday will manifest itself over the course of the weekend. Was it all done properly? Does the car go into qualifying perfect or was a mistake made that will set the operation back a day and force them into a pressure situation qualifying? The work done in the quiet day shows largely on the loudest days.
