2018 NHRA Denso 4-Wide Nationals – More Wheels Up Sportsman Fun!

2018 NHRA Denso 4-Wide Nationals – More Wheels Up Sportsman Fun!

(Photos by Jeff and Mike Burghardt) – We’re back with more cool sportsman action photos from the 2018 NHRA Denso 4-Wide Nationals in Las Vegas. As we told you yesterday, sportsman racing took place on a two by two format, not the four wide format used by the professional classes. Why is this? Well, there are a couple of reasons. The first being that the Compulink timing system has not yet been altered to handle four dial-ins in four lanes and all of that complication that comes with handicap style racing. The same can be said for the index competitors. There’s also the racer angle and while it would be fun to watch, it would be nearly impossible for the driver in lane four to accurately drive the stripe against the driver in lane one because he wouldn’t be able to see him, if at all over the center wall. Will it happen someday? Maybe? Who really knows.

The best part of the weekend for me was seeing how the hard work of the staff at The Strip paid off. Not just building the place but also preparing it. The thing was hooking and booking from pair one right through to the end. This was about as fun a race as I have ever been to! NHRA is off this weekend and will be loaded up for bear in Houston, Texas next weekend.
