(Photos by Jeff and Mike Burghardt) – The keyboard commandos hate it. The internet ninjas swore it would fail, and then The Strip At Las Vegas Motor Speedway had a blow out crowd on Friday and had announced sell outs on both Saturday and Sunday of the 2018 NHRA Denso Spark Plugs 4-Wide Nationals. While we realize that many people dislike the four wide racing format, there are gazillions of fans who do love it and the big crowds at zMax prove it as well as the now big crowds at Vegas.

No one has to like it, we get that. Heck, there are a load of drivers who openly talk about how they don’t really like it and two of them won the race! JR Todd and Steve Torrance are not exactly banner wavers for four wide drag racing but they were smiling wide on Sunday afternoon after the dust settled and they had won their respective categories. In pro stock it was Vincent Nobile who won the race and broke a drought that started at Maple Grove in 2016. Proof of how hard it is to actually in races in pro stock, right?

It was a rocking weekend and we have a load of photos on the way. ZERO fuel car exploded. No funny cars lost a body, the safety safari trucks did not have to respond to a major incident once and the fans got insane nitro racing at a killer pace. You don’t have to like it. No one has to like anything BUT there’s no denying that four wide drag racing puts asses in seats and that is good for the drag strip, the sport, and everyone involved.

We’ll be back with more tomorrow.

Click the images and get a great look at the fury and craziness of the 4-wide nationals
