(Photos by David Whealon/DW-Photos) – For the second and final time during the 2018 NHRA Mello Yello drag racing season, competitors found themselves not staring across the track at one opponent but instead, seeing three other people to race. Yes, it was the NGK Spark Plugs 4-Wide Nationals at zMax Dragway in Concord, North Carolina.

This was the second race in a three race swing that has seen teams competing in Texas, North Carolina, and this coming weekend in Georgia. Teams are showing signs of life like the Snap-On funny car of Cruz Pedregon who captured his first win in 92 races at zMax. Another team who has come roaring back into the fold is the Elite Motorsports operation who parked Erica Enders in the winner’s circle at the strip. In top fuel it was Steve Torrence winning his third four wide style drag race in a row and sweeping the two race set in 2018.

It was a busy weekend, it was a wild weekend, and this is the first set of photos that David shipped over. Loads more to come in the days ahead.
