(Photos by David Whealon) – We’re back with more great David Whealon photos from the 2020 PDRA Carolina Showdown presented by ProCharger. Yesterday we showed you a load of awesome photos from the event and here’s more fresh material. You’ll see some of our favorite cars in this one like the Extreme Pro Stock category. Using engines in the 830-840ci range, mandatory clutches, a LENCO transmission, and a 2,400lb race weight, they haul the mail to the tune of 4.0s in the eighth mile. They’ll go 6.20s in the quarter in the right air.
The engines actually match the bodies in these cars. Yes, they are wildly overgrown versions of original platforms but when you see a Ford you know that there is a massive version of the shotgun hemi under the nose. GM stuff has a big block wedge style engine and Mopar bodied entires typically run massive hemis.
The cranks in these engines weight something like 100lbs and they make torque like bulldozers.
