Alky Cars, Pro Stock Bikes, Sportsman Action, and More From The 2016 NHRA GatorNationals

(Photos by David Whealon/DW-Photos) – Of the hundreds and hundreds of cars that were competing at the 2016 NHRA GatorNationals a few of them really stood out and it was for various reasons. The injected nitro-burning dragster of Megan Meyer was one of them and her standout reasons were two. The first is that the car is super eye catching with a brightly colored design adorning the other side and the second reason is that this was her first national event and it looked for all the world like she was going to win the thing! She made the final round and ended up falling to Rich McPhillips in the money round but it was an auspicious debut on the national event level for Meyer who is the daughter of top alcohol dragster class great Randy Meyer. She has been involved the sport for a long time and she really showed her chops at the Gators.

You’ll see pro stock bike photos in here as well and that show continues to be dominated by the Harley-Davidsons. Jerry Savoie is making them sweat a little but for the most part the big V-twin bikes really have their program down pat at this point. The orange and black brigade left with more hardware in Gainesville.

Some history is captured in these images below. The wheel standing Challenger Drag Pack of Jon Allegrucci is cool because it is the first of the supercharged Drag Pack’s to compete in public. Tuned up by Ray Barton, it was a stout player in qualifying and unfortunately a red light ended Allegrucci’s race day activities early but fans really responded to the blown late model hemi mixing it up with the Ford and Chevrolet entries.

It was a great weekend in Gainesville and we’ll be back with more coverage from Charlotte and the 4-Wide Nationals!
