Santa pod’s annual “drag-stalgia” event is a huge gathering of vintage drag racing fans from all over Europe. We’re going to venture to say that it is the largest nostalgia drag race in Europe and it has one factor that elevates it to the level or maybe even past the level of our nostalgia stuff in the USA. What is it? Fire burnouts! Each year there is an exhibition of cars performing the flaming trick and crowd eats it up.

This video shows Dave Nelson taking the fire burnout challenge and acing it with a score of 100% correct. How? Well the entire rear of the car was doused with gasoline (about a half million bucks worth when you consider what the junk costs over there). The puddle is then ignited and the tires take care of the rest. Flinging and whipping the tires as the revs com up, the dragster looks like some sort of a set piece from Mad Max.

Fire burnouts are illegal at strips in the USA and they have been largely forgotten here. We’re hoping videos like this may convince some of the brass, somewhere to reconsider that. They are exceptionally fun to watch, especially when recorded in ultra-slow motion to see it all just envelopes you.

Dave had in fact been eating one of Santa Pod’s famous nitro burgers and his as his crew chief had been knocked back by the local lady of ill-repute the night before and was in a fowl mood he timed the gasoline dump with one of Dave’s famous self-igniting 100 yard death-zone farts..

I just love this kinda stuff . The stories about doing fire burn outs for real years ago.The stories about crews using Hydrozeen( I’m sure I miss spelled it). are all just unbelievable. All in the name of going fast. Many thanks to the guys from years ago. That threw out common sense out the frigg’n window .
