Halfway through February, and we’re already starting to see the crop of Drag Week 2018 hopefuls getting their rears in gear and getting their projects sorted so that they can make the call when the show kicks off on September 9th, 2018 in Atlanta, Georgia. People get excited for Drag Week and regardless of how heroic you might look as you fire your car up for the first time with days left to go, it’s always better to have your gear sorted and ready well ahead of schedule, giving you time to work out the bugs and to properly prepare…you know, the one thing you can do to minimize time spent on the road or worse, waiting for the truck and trailer to come pick you up?
Forum member Quinn Lawerence knows that’s the smart approach, and he’s been busy getting his 1968 Chevrolet Camaro ready to roll. The car has been a three-year project and his goal is to make it to Drag Week this year. He’s certainly put in the effort…the street-strip build Camaro has been thoroughly prepared and set up for the week of fun. A Steve Morris Racing Engines-built small-block Chevy packing a ProCharger will be providing the grunt that a Proformance Racing Engines-built TH400 automatic is going to have to deal with. Martin Motorsports took care of buttoning up some of the looser ends of the Camaro, including the parachute, driveshaft loop, wiring and more. Wendell Blevins at Auto Creations in Bellevue, Ohio did the sheetmetal work on the car that included smoothing the firewall, replacing rear quarters, floor pans and the trunk lid.
After the guys at Bad Ass Replicas got the Camaro polished up and put together, Lawerence got to work on converting all of the exterior lighting on the car to LEDs. And with that, the Camaro is on the ground and ready to start it’s testing and tuning. We hope to see this silver beauty in the lanes in Georgia!
