This Could Be The Weirdest Slingshot Dragster Ever!

This Could Be The Weirdest Slingshot Dragster Ever!

What do you think? After all, it’s powered by a Wisconsin VH4D engine. A what? Yeah, it is that kind of ride. Built by a guy named Patrick who refers to the style as Farmpunk, and says he builds something weird like this every year just for the hell of it. This one is strange strange strange, not so much in the look, but for sure in the parts that were used to create it. Look at this list of donor vehicles.

Electric start Wisconsin VH4D engine, Model A Ford 3 speed transmission, Pennsylvania Panzer garden tractor rear frame/rear axle (Plymouth), 1940s Crosley front axle, vintage H78-15 rear tires, vintage 2-1/4 gallon beer keg gas tank, fabricated roller chain butterfly steering wheel, hairpin front suspension, S-wrench steering, zoomie exhaust pipe manifolds, intake manifold, hand brake. Vintage Dixco tach reads correctly. Vintage 12″ front wheels. 90″ wheelbase, 136″ overall length. Original to the engine snap-over Rockford clutch.

The look definitely gives you the feel of the 1950’s machines that used to be built in garages all over the country. In fact, probably in some barns that would fit to call this farmpunk for sure.

The snap-over Rockford clutch probably makes this thing a riot, although we aren’t sure just how reliable the drivetrain will remain if you do that too often. We’d sure like to find out though.

Read all about this one and let us know what you think. It’s strange, but sorta cool, and we kinda dig it. Brian is probably dreaming about it as we speak.

Please view the video. Note: I am 6′-1″ tall.  Every year I build some type of motorized vehicle to take to car & tractor shows, usually its in tractor form but this years project was a 1950s/1960s style slingshot dragster. You can see the full build on my FB page Krypt Kickers Handcrafted Farmpunk. These projects are put together with whatever pieces and parts I have laying around and scrounging old junk yards and swapmeets. The main purpose of my projects are to have something one of a kind to take to the shows every year and just have fun with the build and driving them around at shows. This dragster was not built to any spec or to be used as an actual competition dragster, it was built as a novelty, it is however fully functional. The Rockford clutch is an over center clutch, it’s either engaged or it isn’t, no slipping it. The lever takes 120 ft/lbs to engage it when adjust properly. I have the two ultra thin wrenches in my toolbox to adjust the valves on the VH4D engine. Those engines will run forever, parts are expensive.
