One of the more frustrating parts of restoring a car or truck can be the trim parts. Stainless trim can be difficult to straighten and polish, plastic parts take a whole different set of skills, and chrome parts vary so much that you never know which ones are savable or not. And the cost of some of these things is nuts! But let’s say you have a chrome part and are looking to have it redone because you don’t have a reproduction option and it is too pitted to polish. Is it possible to restore that part if it is made out of pot metal? The quick answer is yes, probably, most of the time. And here is how.
Video Description:
These trims are over 75 years old and are made from Pot metal / Mazac / Zinc Alloy / Monkey Metal.
Whatever you call it, the material is poor quality. It is terrible to work with but you can see how we do our best to restore these and chrome them.
Hopefully we can make them so they are useable again. Can we get a good finish on these heavily pitted parts? Watch and find out.
