I watch all of Karl Fisher’s videos, because his YouTube Channel “Make It Kustom” is all about shaping metal and I dig it. But there is also a lot on the channel about welding, and specifically welding body panels and formed pieces of sheet metal. But that doesn’t mean that Karl isn’t welding all kinds of other things too. He’s building chassis, and brackets, and all kinds of stuff and when he does you can clearly see that this dude is a welder.
I’m pretty well known for saying that there are Race Car Drivers and then there are people that drive race cars and those two things are not the same. The folks who drive race cars very often ride in them, and are not actually in control. I think the same thing applies to welding. The good news is that there are so many advancements in welding technology that it has never been easier to weld two pieces of metal together. That means that almost anyone can weld, but it doesn’t mean that anyone can be a bad ass at it. Or can they?
With welding, practice is the key. I would say that with rare exception, most people could become really good welders if they took the time to practice and get good at it. With guys like Karl also sharing their knowledge, you can pick it up quicker than ever. So go get a welder and then start watching videos and practicing!
