We sure do dig old commercials like this one from Goodyear. We can’t remember the last time a commercial that featured anything Drag Racing related had anyone in it that didn’t drive something nitro burning. Who knows, maybe this one was one of the last. Either way, this Goodyear commercial from 1988 features Bob Glidden’s Pro Stock Thunderbird and we like it. How about you? Do you actually remember this one? Can new tire commercials compete with cool old stuff like this?

I wonder if anyone has tried to account for Glidden’s former racecars and their current status. I live here in Alabama an knew of probably 2 of them that wound up racing down here for a period of time. One was the 1986 Chief car that was built to replace the one destroyed at the crash at Atlanta that year. It raced around here still in original colors for many years after that though I think it has since been repainted. There was another car (a 1987-88 type car like the one in the commercial) that ran at Lassiter Mtn Dragway north of Birmingham in “Quick 8” in the early-to-mid 90’s or so. It was painted black and had “Bad Bird” on the side. I had always heard that it was an ex-Glidden car too.
