RacingJunk: Take Your (Sling) Shot With This Blown Small Block Woody Gilmore Built Dragster

RacingJunk: Take Your (Sling) Shot With This Blown Small Block Woody Gilmore Built Dragster

With all of our talk of nostalgia drag racing and history today, we figured we’d tie that bow up nicely by showing you this killer and historic slingshot that is for sale on RacingJunk right now. The car is a 1969 Woody Gilmore built chassis that has been upgraded to a five point cage in the driver’s area and is powered by a cool little blown small block Chevy.

The car has not been raced in 20 years so it is going to have to come apart and get all freshened up and serviced, but how can you not look at this thing and smile? As cool as a modern slingshot is, nothing is cooler than one that was built by one of the masters and built 50 years ago. Sure it has been updated but the whole thing is still “right” by our eyeball standards.

Not only do you get the car, but you get the period perfect 1969 dragster trailer that it fits into like a glove. The seller does not give a complete history on this car but with the wheelbase and the fact that it has the snappy trailer, we’re guessing that this thing ran at a pretty high level back then. Maybe top fuel or top gas? Who knows.

The asking price for the whole shebang is $24,900 and while that may strike you as a high price for a non-running car, but for us this stuff can only be “real” once and you are getting a lot of history that cannot be replicated. If we had the money we’d be all about this thing. Rebuild the motor and go have some fun!

Great little dragster, I live near S&S in San Leandro (drop the sbc off to be freshened) and hang out with a bunch of drag racers (several run ANDRA), if my finances were better it would be too easy to get this back on the strip. I think it really looks RIGHT.
