(Photos by Charles Wickam) – Every year about this time we get sore with Charles Wickam. Why? Mainly because he is at Little River Dragway in Texas for the Kontinentals Day of the Drags and we are not. We have said it before and we will say it again, this is one of the single coolest drag races that happens anywhere, anytime in the country. The track is absolutely awesome because it appears to have not changed a lick from the middle 1960s on. The cars are truly cool because they’re all old school traditional style machines, nostalgia drag race machines, or early hot rod with little ‘bangers in them. This isn’t goofy rat rod stuff, this is haul ass the old time way kinda stuff and you will see that in this gallery.

Charles sent us hundreds and hundreds of photos so we’re going to roll them at you in batches of 100. Consider this the first batch and we’ll be back with another tomorrow, and the day after, and the damned day after that! The race cars are classes by their elapsed times or engine type during time trials. If you are pokey slow you get put into the “leisure class”, if you are shooting header flames and setting the world ablaze you are classsed as a “super comp” competitor and there are a couple more class breaks in the middle.

This is a no bullshit, show up and have the time of your life event and you can actually feel that through Charles’s photos. We’re still seething with jealousy though. We want to go to this bad boy!
