There are drag racing films and then there are drag racing FILMS. This is the latter and it was made by Jake Simmons for CompetitonPlus.com. The footage all comes from the NHRA pre season test in Phoenix, Arizona and it is truly a wonderful thing to watch. There’s a nice musical score during the front half of the film and the piece is really nicely edited. When you are watching this, remember the footage was all gathered by one guy. All of these angles and all of this stuff was snatched up by one hustling mother trucker. Jake is a great guy, even when he eats some of the fruit in the moonshine at Lights Out 10. We love stuff like this because there is nothing getting between the viewer and the cars. It is like art without pretension. It is not a film designed to show us how bad ass Jake is (and he is bad ass) it is one designed to highlight the cars in a big league way. He crushed it here. This is the best way to start your morning ever.

There’s just nothing in the world like the hit of a fuel car…it never gets old…that being said, some of my favorite sounds at the track are the off-the-throttle moments…like standing about 50 feet away from a funny car that’s backing up past you after a burnout…or being at the top end when a fueler has shut off and is angrily idling by… 🙂
