Cool Video: The Story Of “The Pilgrimage” – An Inside Look At The First x275 Exhibition In NHRA History

Well this is pretty awesome. You are about to watch a video that tells the whole story of “The Pilgrimage” which was the name for the x275 exhibition put on at the 2017 NHRA New England Nationals. This was the first time that x275 cars were featured at an NHRA National event and the whole deal was a smashing success. Set up as a “team” race with a group of New England based racers taking on some out of town hitters, many of the biggest names in x275 competition were present including guys like Dean Marinis, the Bruder Brothers, and others. There were lots of last minute roster jockeying moves made when guys had breakage or could not show up for one reason or another but at the end of the day, the show was spectacular.

The NHRA has been working with various groups across the country and exposing fans to types of racing they may have never seen before. From the x275 guys in Epping, the no prep guys in Houston, and upcoming forays with rude cars at places like Sonoma, California, it is lots of fun. The racer get treated with the respect they deserve and these things put on a killer show.

One of the things that people were wondering about was specifically how these cars would work on NHRA track prep. Race officials did have the track sprayed with an extra shot of glue before the x275 cars ran and the results speak for themselves in video. Marinis reset the x275 track record during eliminations and runs in the 4.40s were made to the delight of the crowd. All in all it was a great show.

These are important exhibitions for the NHRA in our opinion. If for no other reason to show respect to these hardcore racers and help the host tracks to publicize some of the cool stuff they have going on when the circus is not in town. They’ve all gone well so far and this video shows just how much fun was had in Epping!

NHRA would be idiots not to include these classes, either X275, ODR, 8.50, etc in place of those boring Super classes. I would even go as far as elimimlnating Pro Stock since its been Pro Mod w/o power adders for the past 10-15 years.
