Under normal circumstances when your block arrives, it needs to normal prep that every block does. Cleaning, de-burring, a finish hone on the cylinders to match your piston and ring package, cam bearings installed, etc. If you have a good hook up at the machine shop to get this stuff done, you can go that route but if you’d rather not spend more time waiting or if you do not want to take that extra trip to the machinist, the prep service will deliver you a block that is ready to be built right out of the box.

How are they going to know how far in the hole the piston is? Too many times I’ve seen that high dollar measuring tool used and low and behold when the crank is installed and you check four corners with with a rod and piston it’s drunk. Do it yourself then deck the block. Also to many times those ready to bolt on heads really aren’t ready to bolt on. Good luck.
