There’s weird, there’s cool, there’s too weird to be cool, and then there’s the perfect match of weird AND cool. This Devin bodied hot rod is exactly that. A car that is odd and different but cooler than a block of dry ice. At least we think so. Yes, there’s really a Devi-bodied, 409 Chevy powered drag car for sale on eBay right now. This car was raced locally in California through the 1960s and 1970s according to the ad and it sure looks like it was judging by the photos included.

The Devin company cranked out a few different designs over the years but the SS was the most famous look that the company produced. Guys like Dean Moon and Ak Miller used the Devin as a platform for race cars along with so many others. This thing is freaky cool not just because it is a Devin, not just because it is a drag racing Devin, but because it is a drag racing Devin with a 409hp 409 loaded into the nose! The 409 is backed with an automatic transmission and is shifted with a GM “horseshoe” shifter between the two bucket seats. The car has a killer participant sticker on the dash from 1964 and there are a bunch of images included with the ad.

What’s kind of interesting is that one of the photos shows a look with two carbs on top of the 409 but the car is currently advertised and equipped with a GM Winters foundry made single four barrel intake manifold. Not that we think anyone is trying to pull a fast one, we just happened to notice it.

While we have no idea what the car ran, we’re guessing that it was pretty snappy in its day and a look underneath shows an interesting amalgamation of leaf springs, slapper bars, and coil over shocks. This is a really awesome car and we’d love to fire it up and make a rip down the quarter mile!
