DIY Pro Stock: This 1992 Ford Probe Could Be Your Nostalgia Ride Come True!

DIY Pro Stock: This 1992 Ford Probe Could Be Your Nostalgia Ride Come True!

Bicker and argue all you want about what era Pro Stock was truly best, but you have to admit that the last time it was good was the 1990s, when you had W.J. going up against Glidden, with the Wayne County Dodges hard-charging before all of “that” went down. You knew what cars they were running, they had plenty of power to show off, and the driver’s personalities didn’t leave anything behind for the sake of sponsorship or political correctness. You had burndowns, you had blowups (both engine and verbal) and you had some wicked side-by-side moments that are truly worthy of being highlights in NHRA history.

Which is odd, once you look at the street-going versions of what was out there at the time. Oldsmobile Cutlass? Dodge Daytona? Ford Probe?! Front-wheel-drive sport coupes with maybe a hot V6…that’s what you saw on the highlight reel on ESPN or TNN? Wow. Well, at least on TV they were driving the rears and putting fears into competitors at the line.

Miss those days? Want some of your own? Here’s your shot. This 1992 Probe was inspired by Bob Glidden’s Pro Stock machine and is a roller ready for your big block Ford and Powerglide. It’s got a steel roof and steel quarters…and that’s about it, everything else is ‘glass. Weighing in at 2,700 pounds, with a chromoly chassis, and a Funny Car-style cage, all you have to do is repower it, apply your own style to the outside, and get to work on living out your quarter-mile fantasies. You’ll almost be able to hear Buster Couch yelling at you to get your car into the beams.

I agree the 90’s was the last of the real Pro ‘Stock’. When Dodge came out with the ugly ass Neon, it went downhill from there.

That Boss9 is going to need a Lenco behind it!
