(Photos by Julian Hunt) – When it comes to nostalgia drag racing in Europe, the events do not come any bigger or better than Dragstalgia which is held every year at Santa Pod Raceway in England. It is a huge gathering of killer cars that celebrate the history of not only British drag racing but the sport in general. Everything from fire burnouts to fuel altereds wowed the fans during the 2016 version of the event and these photos from Julian Hunt will wow YOU.
Julian is a great shooter and he’s pals with one of our other European crazies Dennis Vos. The lead photo you see above the text here won Julian the 2016 British Drag Racing Hall of Fame media award which is a story in and unto itself. The photos in consideration for the award are decided on by a panel but then the ultimate judge of the winner? That work goes to Pink Floyd legend and car guy Nick Mason to choose the champ and this year it was the incredible image of the dragster in the midst of a fire burnout and got his attention. Pretty sweet, right?!
This is fun stuff and the images are top shelf. We’re happy to shine the light onto the great British drag racing scene whenever we can and we cannot thank guys like Dennis and Julian enough for sharing their work with us!
Wow, that VW Kombi is one of the toughest vans I have ever seen! Reminds me of the Deals Wheels Van, but real!!!
It is pretty awesome. Runs 11’s too. I love the way the full roll cage wraps around the original camping interior so the bed, sink and cooker are still useable!
Great series of photos, especially the fire burn out!!!! Nice to see Randy Bradford’s Altered there, thanks for sharing…..
