Drag Gallery: 411 Dragway’s $5,000 To Win Bracket Bash!

Drag Gallery: 411 Dragway’s $5,000 To Win Bracket Bash!

(Photos by Alana Garner) – 411 Dragway in Seymour, Tennessee was staring down the barrel of a figurative gun earlier this year. It appeared that the track was going to be bulldozed and its multi-decade history history was all but awaiting the bulldozer’s unrelenting push. Then a guy named George stepped in and stopped all that from happening. He rallied the local racers and supports of the track. With some elbow grease and good old fashioned work, they got the place up and running and respectable again. 411 Dragway is not ever going to be mistaken for the Texas Motorplex but it is one of those great small town tracks that are so important to the vitality of drag racing as a whole. To many people that got to 411, George saved a drag strip. To those of us that love this sport so much, George saved a whole lot more than that. His efforts have been rewarded by strong car counts and enthusiastic volunteer support to keep the place rolling.

Recently, the track held a big buck bracket bash that drew out a great mix of cars. BangShift contributing photographer Alana Garner was at the track and shooting photos like a madwoman all day. These is a GREAT mix of cars in this gallery from the awesome ratty Mopar below to a second generation Camaro that bears all the hallmarks of an ex-1980s Pro Stocker, to wheelstanding Buicks and more. This is just a gallery of great local drag cars getting after it on a hometown track. This is the stuff that embodies the spirit of the sport. Thanks to Alana for sharing the photos!

Thanks Alana, for great pics of some nice cars. Good work George and the rest of the group to rescue the track and keep it going.
