(Photos by Greg Rourke) – Here’s an admission for you. I love test and tune days. I used to love them as an announcer and I love them on the rare occasion I can sneak off to one with my kids these days. Why? It is fun to see a whole bunch of different stuff, that’s why. Take this collection of photos from Greg Rourke for example. We have everything from junior dragsters to wheel standing tri-five Chevrolets in here. Cars that likely compete at the track’s weekly bracket series and others that are just getting their new parts for the year broken in.
One of the ways I “learned” to be an announcer was at those test at tune days. It was not about who was driving the car it was about what was on the race track in front of me, what information I could bring to the table, and how I could relay some of that to the people in the stands. I am sure it was cringeworthy bad at times but I loved every second.
Everyone has their definition of a perfect day but for years mine was a Saturday with skies like you see in Greg’s gallery, a pit area full of cars from every imaginable class, and a brain that was running at 8500rpm always waiting to be tickled by the next thing that came around the corner.
Enjoy the photos!
whats with the wood wall to pull around and back up into the water at byron?
To keep rocks and such from hitting cars and people when the cars are doing their burnout.
