I’ve always been fascinated with drag racing in places like England and Australia because the populations share the love of speed and internal combustion but as the sport is basically predicated on using the stuff that is on hand, the cars are all different and cool. In this video we get a look at what drag racing looked like in England 40 years ago. We’e talking top fuelers, sportsman cars, and everything in between. It is one of those “instructional” type films of which there are zillions in the world that educate people about the sport and how it works. Some of the classes and stuff like that.

There’s a killer matchup between a front engine slingshot and a rear engine top fuel dragster here where both of the cars are all over the place, more so the rear engine car. The announcer jokingly talks about cross winds that are going at like 40mph! It would make sense that the rear engine car struggles with the wind because that large rear wing would seemingly sink its teeth into it.

The track that these guys are racing on is the road course at Snetterton, England. They are (obviously) competing on the long straight that the course has. This is an event being put on by the traveling National Drag Racing Club which ran at many of the country’s tracks back then. This is an awesome video and if you love drag racing, seeing cool cars that you WON’T see here, and enjoy some good old hot rodding history, this is your jam.
