(Words and photos by Benoit Pigeon) – In the mountains of the southwest end of Virginia is a little track by the name Elk Creek Dragway. On September 29-30, the facility hosted a pre-1964 event. This type of race is much like a Nostalgia event with various categories and some exhibitions cars. Jr. dragsters were also invited to compete, attracting many of the most serious regional competitors. The track is not very big but racing 1/8 is all it takes to make it a fun weekend. Cars came from various places, mostly Virginia and neighboring states of NC and West Virginia. Events like this are a good opportunity to see cars and meet racers who don’t typically enter the larger events.
What’s left of this raceweek end are the pictures below. If you like what you see you should investigate what similar tracks are in the region you live in and review their schedule for the 2018 season. Elk Creek Dragway is on the net either you are a racer of a spectator – www.elkcreekdragway.com. Give them a call.
