Empire Dragway Stars and Cars Coverage: Larson, Daddy Dave, Killer Drag Cars of All Shapes!

Empire Dragway Stars and Cars Coverage: Larson, Daddy Dave, Killer Drag Cars of All Shapes!

(Words and photos by Mike Brooks) –  Sunday July 3rd made an incredible day of drag racing at Empire Dragway in Leicester, NY. The track hosted their “Stars and Cars” event and it was a big one! I hit the road early along with Bangshift contributors Jose Ferrer and Brian Ackley and we were blown away upon arrival to the historic 1/4 facility. This place was jam packed!! The house was filled with over 9000 spectators and racers! By far, the biggest field and crowd we’ve ever seen here. It was awesome! The event featured a full card of bracket racing, Ashpalt war shootout, Can/Am super stock series, along with match racing from the likes of Dave “Daddy Dave” Comstock, Chris “Kamikaze” Day, Chris Hamilton a.k.a. “Boosted GT”, and the legendary Nova and S-10 of Larry Larson.

The pits were packed as fans waited in line for their chance to meet, greet and grab some merch from the stars of the show. Whether you’re a fan of the Street Outlaws TV show or not, you can’t deny the impact it has had on the  sport of drag racing. People of all ages came from as far as two states away as well as Canada to come see the show. For some, it was their first time at a live event. That’s what it’s all about folks. Bringing the people out to support local tracks and exposing new fans to the sport. Drag Racing is alive and well my friends, and it’s bigger than ever! Big thanks to the staff at Empire for an amazing event and allowing us to run all over the place like madmen!”

    1. Gump

1/8 judging by the dial-ins, but that semi running a 16 at 91 looks like a 1/4 time. A car slower than 8.0 in the 1/4 is just fine running the 1/8. The action is off the line and the last 100 feet, everything else in between is wasted time.
