Event Coverage: The Houston Performance Truck Shootout – Larson, Gassers, Diesels, More!

(Photos by Charles Wickam) – No state is more serious about their trucks than Texas and the growth of the Houston Performance Truck Shootout at Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas proves that. Guys tow their stuff from all over the country to show, shine, and compete on the strip for bragging rights. The event has gotten so big that Larry Larson was invited to come down and make some exhibition runs. Larson’s best effort (with the steel doors on and cooling system installed) was a 6.51/229mph that left the crowd freaking out for sure.

Wickam captured all of the action around and on the strip. This first installment of photos concentrates on the scene in the pits and in the show area where some really nice rigs were polished up for the crowd. We particularly like the standard cab dually that is laying frame below! The ultra clean Chevy drag truck above is a little taste of things to come as we work through our photos. There were gas trucks, diesel machines, sleepers, full on drag iron, and a lot more. We loves us some trucks and Wickam did a great job at this event.

Hey, the armed guards that were hanging with the Larson-mobile all weekend even let him in. That’s saying something because that ankle bracelet he wears is pretty tough to hide. Hit the link below to see the photos!
