WOW! That was our first reaction when we got news that Captain Jack McClure would be making full quarter mile runs in his rocket kart this February. Double wow! That was our second response when we learned that the runs will be happening at International Raceway Park PaloMarga on the island of Aruba on February 28th. Triple wow was the response when we learned that Jack would be turning 89 flipping years old that very weekend. Jack obviously was able to make some pretty regulated eighth mile runs a short while back at South Georgia Motorsports Park but these will be “full pulls” and the 89-year old legend will be looking to better his existing personal best elapsed time of 5.98 and speed of 213.27mph. Go ahead and read that again if your think it was wrong. This is serious stuff.

The event going on that weekend at the International Raceway PaloMarga is called Faya Bo Haya 7 and it looks like a pretty wide open deal with dragsters, street cars, door slammers, and whatever else wants to roll through the gate. Heck, if they are giving Jack the nod to so what he is doing it has to be awesome. Aruba has a strong tradition and history in drag racing. There are lots of insanely fast turbo rotary and four banger cars on the island that do come over and mix it up here on the “mainland” every now and again. The Team Aruba drag racing team long competed in mountain motor pro stock with sponsorship from the island and that team has its very roots there as well. This isn’t a place new to the sport and they probably know Jack pretty well there already. This is going to be epic and we cannot wait to hear about this successes in smashing the existing performance marks he is shooting for.
