(Words and photos by Benoit Pigeon) – On August seven, Piedmont Dragway’s Big Dog and Extreme Outlaw Pro Mod, EOPM, joined forces for the very first time. Big Dog is a monthly event and series at a single track while EOPM has multiple events at various tracks over three states. Both series share many of the same racers, however EOPM current point leader Tommy Franklin came all the way from Virginia to visit the track for the first time.
Very much like most EOPM events, the race was a typical single day event, starting in mid afternoon for an eight cars field but with only two qualification attempts. This did not stop the regional power house from showing a great race with all qualified cars in the 3.80s and 3.90s. Two blown cars and two nitrous motors made it to the semi finals, and with a 0.001 light over Franklin, Rivenbark took his Galot sponsored blown Mustang to the final while Todd Tutterow got a bye, Jay Cox not making the run with his Nitrous car. Rivenbark took the win in the final against Tutturow aboard his new Camaro. However, both went home with a win since the final of the June Big Dog race was also decided during this event. Franklin will remain point leader for EOPM coming into the next race.
There will be a second race with EOPM at Piedmont this year over the week end of October 18-19.
