FACEPALM: These Letters To The Editor Complaining About Car Commercials Are Hilarious

When I first saw the comments and concerns rattled off by the various people who’s words are featured at the link below, I thought it was a joke. I was actually surprised to learn that there are adult people in the world who see a car commercial on television or the internet and are so appalled by what they are seeing that they say stuff like:

“I, too, have found the Dodge commercials inappropriate. They seem to only emphasize speed, power and excess. They say there is demand for their SUVs and gas guzzlers. I disagree. I think the “demand” is there only because they continually shove their commercials for them down our throats.”

For starters someone at an ad agency is pumping their fist and likely spending this link because their ads are so effective that they have created and sustained demand for vehicles that cost big money. HUGE WIN!

The 1960s were dominated by ads of cars smoldering the tires, ripping sideways in the dirt, fording rivers, and genuinely doing cool stuff. In the 1970s it was far more about fuel economy and anything but performance because the cars had none. Today it is an interesting bag. Companies and models have defined themselves over the years so they are more playing to their identities than anything else. Dodge is a performance brand and FCA touts that about every 30 seconds. Lincoln has weird ads with Matthew McConaughey, and Toyota tries to desperately make the world believe that their cars are not soul sucking appliances.

So lets get back to those people who submitted their furious opinions over car commercials. Do you think these folks have any joy in their lives? If you can get this mad over a damed Dodge ad, we’re thinking that life ain’t all that much fun.

Not a word about BMW ads…for decades since the term \”yuppie\” came into use they\’ve been reaching out to those susceptible to the belief you can be better than all others around you by being seen in one, to this day the brand is synonymous with sh*t driving and anti-social traffic behavior.

Really intense self-righteous complaint letters, when people used to write them, would get handed around offices or posted on walls at wife\’s work so everybody could have a chuckle.

The question here is, how many complaints are there of this commercial? One, dozens, hundreds, thousands? I’m sure some potential customers went to the dealership to complain but doubt it will change how Dodge will show their commercials.

Just the Christmas trees bug me. They are always tied down to the cars backwards. The stump goes forward unless you want to get home with broken limbs that is.
