As the drag racing scene in America begins to slowly wake from its winter slumber, the boys and girls in the Southern Hemisphere continue to kill it with their cool cars and trucks. In this video we have a Brazilian Chevrolet Chevette that is packing a four cylinder, 16-valve engine which is boosted with a turbocharger. The car is also a gear jammer and boy is it fun to watch this thing work. In this video you are going to see it rip to an 8.36/169.63mph pass and do so in fine style.
As we often talk about, people hot rod what is available to them and while the V8 stuff in various forms is creeping into the Brazilian scene, cars like this one are still the bedrock of the country’s drag racing. We may see machines like this as slightly exotic (especially with what sounds like a sequential transmission) but damn they are fun to watch. While we respect and love the high performance geniuses who have applied torque converter technology to ever more powerful cars on the strip, we hope that the clutch reigns supreme for many decades in Brazil. Let’s face it, cars that are manually shifted are far more fun to watch.
Enjoy this screaming Orange beast and wait until you see the in-car footage. This car is so well sorted that it looks like a Cadillac going down the strip. So good!
