Flamin’ Nightmare: Watch This Power Stroke Ford Go Down In Flaming Glory On The Dyno

Modern diesel performance is an amazing thing to behold and like all aspects of the aftermarket, people like to push the boundaries of what is possible. In the case of this video the guys who own this truck were trying to make as much power as humanely possible with a stock bottom end Power Stroke Ford V8. Apparently they were doing a pretty good job of it until they weren’t. See, right about the time this thing was making 1,220hp and more than 2,200 lbs-ft of torque, it all went wrong in a hurry. The lead photo is the resultant fireball.

To be making that kind of power, we’re talking about compound turbocharges, triple digit boost, and likely nitrous to get the whole party started. This is a combo that is amazingly powerful but can be volatile if anything goes wrong. We do not know the root cause of the flaming wreckage we see here but we can guess that the thing may have thrown a rod or eight out of the side of the block and we’re seeing oil and any other combustible igniting instantly upon hitting the red hot exhaust or turbochargers.

The video ends before we see the fire extinguished but we’re hoping the guys jumped on it quick with the suppression because if not, someone’s shop probably burned to the ground.

Always be safe around a chassis dyno and ALWAYS take extra caution when pushing stock parts harder than they were ever designed to go!
